Congratulations to all of those New Yorkers who exercised their long-overdue civil rights yesterday and got married! Especially the Manhattan couple, Phyllis Siegel, 76, and Connie Kopelov, 84, – together for 23 years!
I hate to break the news though, the U.S. Federal Government doesn’t think you’re actually a couple! Neither do my relatives in the south …
Kudos to folks like Mayor Jason West, who (before he was 30) said he considers it his “moral obligation” to issue marriage licenses to gay couples back in February 2004 — and did it before it was cool. That’s true “punk,” no? Even today, West gives credit elsewhere, “I got a lot of attention for the marriages,” he says, looking back. “But I came late to the game. There’s people been working on this for 30, 40 years.”
p.s. Despite the elimination of DADT (Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell), military personal of any “not heterosexual” orientation will not receive benefits afforded to the “normal” people: ”Military gay couples won’t enjoy benefits” — Let freedom, and all of its select bonuses, ring!

p.p.s. Um, are the attacks on Elizabeth Warren any indication of the threat she poses? I’d say yes but will let you decide. Follow the links and do your own research:
