Two Poems Strike Tonight

They appear in the inaugural issue of “The Tiny,” a cool new journal edited by Gina Myers and Gabriella Torres. Though these poems light up a Saturday night (the wee a.m. hours, actually), they are by no means the only two gems in the almost-hundred-page-pack:

Morning Prayer

This morning I awoke with a fresh sense
of the total, desperate hell

Our failure to love each other well

O let jesus come down and make it sweet
Let a jesus take an axe to the wheel

Part the fire with tongs

There Can Be No Poetry After John Tesh

There can be no poetry after John Tesh.
This hardly warrants explanation.
I mean,
Please.

We’re all right-minded individuals
Living in peaceable times
With a goodly case of cancer
At the ready for everyone, interested or not.

John Tesh:
He’s the friggin Anti-Christ
For God’s sake;
I have this on spotless authority.

There can be no poetry after John Tesh.
Or Yanni.
Or Celine Dion.
Or any similar abomination.

There can be no poetry after Michael Jackson.
Or his nose.

Or anyone who has ever
Operated on his nose.

Or anyone who has ever
Lent him
A tissue.
