Something To Say?

Poetry-related? Want to share? Discuss with other poets? I just became the Poetics List Editor for The Poetics List that you, dear interloper, might be interested in becoming a member of:

“Our aim is to support, inform, and extend those directions in poetry that are committed to innovations, renovations, and investigations of form and/or/as content, to the questioning of received forms and styles, and to the creation of the otherwise unimagined, untried, unexpected, improbable, and impossible. While we recognize that other lists may sponsor other possibilities for exchange, we request that those participating in this forum keep in mind the specialized and focused nature of this project and respect our decision to operate a moderated list. The Poetics List exists to support and encourage divergent points of view on innovative forms of modern and contemporary poetry and poetics, and we are committed to do what is necessary to preserve this space for such dialog.”

–from the Poetics List Welcome

“The University of Buffalo POETICS listserv (informally and variously known as UBPOETICS or the POETICS list) is one of the oldest and most widely known mailing lists devoted to the discussion of contemporary North American poetry and poetics. It began on 8 December 1993, although the most easily-accessible archive only contains messages from after the middle of 1994. A number of influential poets and critics associated with various movements in contemporary poetry, including Marjorie Perloff and Charles Bernstein, are list subscribers. Estimates of list membership numbers vary, but are around 1400 readers.”

In other news, I’ll be hosting the MiPOesias Reading Series on Friday, February 23, 2007 @ 7 p.m., with the lovely Jennifer L. Knox, Sina Queyras, and equally-as-lovely, Robert Bohm. For directions to Stain (& photos, info, etc.), please visit the MiPO blog by clicking here. I hope to see you there!

p.s. On the music front, the sentimentalist in me is seriously torn today between Lucy Kaplansky’s “Ten Year Night” [you have to click on the song title] and Wilco’s “Jesus, etc.” [Jesus, etc. video live here].
